Disability Advisory Board

Disability Advisory Board

The Disability Advisory Board was created in 1995 to advise the City Council and City administrative staff on appropriate programs, plans and projects to be implemented in our City that will assist and benefit all people with disabilities.

The five members of this Board are appointed to three-year terms by the Mayor and Council, and are charged with representing citizens with a broad range of challenges. They meet on an as-needed basis, in response to requests from Council to review, discuss and recommend services, programs and activities for an improved quality of life in our community for residents with special needs. Over the years since this Board has existed, they have advocated on behalf of and been involved in a variety of different undertakings. These have included the purchase of special adaptive equipment and a lift for universal accessibility at the municipal pool, the installation of extended asphalt pads for wheelchairs and benches along the bike paths, plans for curb cuts and sidewalk modifications, disability parking issues and special doors for the library.
