Miami Springs Mayor Zavier Garcia Named Community Honorary Chair of November 16, 2013 Arthritis Walk Miami-Dade

Miami, Fla. – October 11, 2013 – Zavier Garcia, 38, a native-born resident of Miami-Dade, and Mayor of Miami Springs, has been named the Community Honorary Chair for the 2013 Arthritis Walk Miami-Dade. The Walk is scheduled for November 16 at Amelia Earhart Park in Miami, Fla. and generates funds to find a cure for arthritis which strikes one in three Floridians, one in four women, and one in 250 children.

“I am delighted to partner with the Arthritis Foundation because I know they are working to find a cure for arthritis and improve the quality of life for those of us who live with arthritis,” said Garcia, who has seronegative arthritis.

Before being elected Mayor in April 2011, Mayor Garcia served as a Miami Springs councilman from 2005-09. He also served on the City’s Code Enforcement Board and was the community liaison for the State Senator, Representative and County Commissioner. Mayor Garcia also runs his own advertising and marketing firm, ZMG Media, Inc.

Mayor Garcia is married to Iliana, a lifelong Miami Springs resident and Registered Nurse at Baptist Hospital, and has three children – Zavier Jr., 14; Alexa-Renee, 10; and Addison-Lee, 4.

As the son of a Vietnam veteran, Mayor Garcia learned at a very young age that one of the highest callings in life was that of service. Mayor Garcia continues to be involved in many community activities and organizations and serves as the official Governmental Liaison to Curtiss Mansion, Inc. (CMI), community liaison for State Senator Rene Garcia, State Representative Bryan Avila and County Commissioner Rebeca Sosa, director on the Board of Faith’s Place Autism Outreach, member of the Miami Springs/Virginia Gardens Optimist Club, member of the Miami Springs Rotary Club and an active parishioner of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church.
