Westward Drive Bike Path Project Begins

Residents may notice that there are some changes along Westward Drive as the new bike path project begins. In order to serve everyone in our community, sidewalks are being installed in areas where there were no sidewalks previously. This will allow ease of access in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In order to install the sidewalks and bike path, 17 trees must be removed. The new bike path was designed to wind down the middle of Westward Drive in an effort to preserve as many trees as possible. To compensate for this loss, the City of Miami Springs will be planting 33 replacement trees.  Since the time of the City’s founding, our trees have been an investment in the health, economy and social fabric of our city. The City of Miami Springs has been designated a Tree City by the National Arbor Day Foundation since 1993 and is fully committed to preserving and growing our tree canopy.
