CONCERNED ABOUT CRIME IN YOUR AREA? JOIN CITIZENS' CRIME WATCH!

The Citizens' Crime Watch program enables citizens and business owners to assist police in recognizing suspicious people and vehicles to help reduce crime within the community.

Miami Springs is one of the safest cities in Miami-Dade County. However, crimes against people and property can be reduced even more by participating in the Citizens' Crime Watch program.

Residents and business owners are encouraged to become part of this crime-reducing program. Please note that in order to form a group in your neighborhood, a participation rate of 30% is required and an active telephone chain must be maintained. If you're interested in forming a group in your neighborhood please fill out an online application and return it to the Community Policing Office. Once the initial application is returned an officer from our Community Policing Office will be in contact with you and advise you how to organize your first Crime Watch meeting.

With guidance and participation from Miami Springs Police Officers and Citizens' Crime Watch of Miami-Dade County,  Crime Watch meetings will be held at homes and businesses to share information. Meetings can be set up at someone's home, business, or location selected by M.S.P.D. An officer from our Community Policing Office and a representative from Citizens' Crime Watch of Miami-Dade County will attend the neighborhood or business district's meetings. The initial meeting will be to explain the program and inform members on how to identify suspicious people and activities in their area. After the initial meeting, at least 30% of the neighborhood must participate in the group. After the neighborhood submits a telephone chain to Citizens' Crime Watch of Miami-Dade County, a second meeting, approximately 2-3 weeks later, will be set up to distribute Crime Watch signs. A minimum of two meetings a year must be conducted to maintain the Crime Watch group.  By using the knowledge learned at the initial Crime Watch meeting, citizens can aid police in stopping criminals from committing crimes, whether misdemeanors or felonies.

Citizens' Crime Watch has proven to be a factor in reducing crime nationwide. The Miami Springs Police Department encourages everyone to participate in stopping crime in their neighborhood and city. Fill out an application and start forming your Crime Watch group today.
