K-9 Unit

The Miami Springs Police Department K-9 Unit consists of two K-9 Teams. They are assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division and work various shifts. The K-9 Teams are on-call 24 hours a day in the event they are needed to search for a criminal suspect, sniff out narcotics, or locate discarded articles that are of an evidentiary nature. Initially, both officers must complete a 400 hour Canine Team Training Course with their K-9 partner. Additionally, their K-9 partners are trained and certified to detect five different drugs - marijuana, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and ecstasy.
