Police Investigations Division

Patch and Detective Badge

The Investigations Division consists of a lieutenant and four detectives.  The detectives conduct follow-up investigations of criminal offenses reported to the uniform patrol division, narcotics enforcement investigations, as well as the examination of physical evidence, crime scene processing, suspect interrogation and arrests. Homicides and sexual battery crimes, however, are handled by Miami-Dade Police Department under a mutual aid agreement.

Law Enforcement Trust Fund money comes from the police department’s participation in a federal task force known as HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area). A police detective is assigned to HIDTA and the department shares in confiscated drug money and other funds raised by selling the property seized from people who are involved in the drug trade.
