Tiny Tots (1-4 years old)

A parent and me class, where each child must be accompanied in the water by an adult. Younger children will adjust to the water by learning skills such as placing the face in the water, flutter kicks and pre-floating skills. All parents are taught how to instruct their children and recognize any errors in their child’s swimming technique. Children are required to wear swim diapers if not potty trained. Classes are 30 minutes long, Monday-Thursday for two weeks (8 total classes).

Levels Swim Classes (5-14 years old)

Children will be taught in a group setting with other children of a similar skill level to their own. Levels range from introductory water and swimming skills to more advanced fundamentals such as flip turns, butterfly and breaststroke all while increasing the participants endurance, comfort and efficiency in the water. Classes are 45 minutes long, Monday-Thursday for two weeks (8 total classes).

For more advanced swimmers looking for a competitive and demanding atmosphere to improve your swimming technique and times, we would recommend looking into local swim clubs/teams.

Adult Swim Lessons (15+)

A comfortable and pressure free environment, intended to assist adults regardless of swim level or skill. This course strives to improve the participants comfort in the water and swimming stroke efficiency. While it is a group setting, instruction is individualized for each participant.Classes are 45 minutes long, Monday-Thursday for two weeks (8 total classes).

Private Swim Lessons (All ages)

The City of Miami Springs now offers Private Swim Lessons taught by our American Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructors. Private Lessons are available for all ages and abilities. Class times and availability are limited due to summer demands.

All lifeguards at the Miami Springs Aquatic Center are trained Water Safety Instructors (WSI) with the RedCross.

At the most each class will have 10 students per instructor. Additional instructors are added when a class becomes large or requires additional attention. Each hour is capped at 20 students for Levels, and 10 students for Tiny Tots and Adults.

Swim Sessions are Monday-Thursday for two consecutive weeks (8 classes). Tiny Tot (1-5 year old) classes are 30 minutes, while levels and Adult classes are 45 minutes.

Parents or an adult are required to enter the water with children in our Tiny Tot classes (1-5 years old). For level classes students will work in a group setting with the instructor while parents wait in the Picnic area.

Age determines if a child will be in Tiny tots or Levels classes. Any kids under the age of 5 will be in Tiny Tots, while 5+ will be in levels. The first day of each session, all students in levels classes are swim tested and placed with other students of a similar skill set. Stroke competency, form and endurance are qualities which determine the level a child will be in.

If it is raining we do not cancel class. We only stop/delay class when the Thorguard (lightning detection system) detects elevated electricity in the area. In the event that the lightning alarm has gone off prior to or during class, we require that all parents and children move to and wait in the foyer area outside the front office or their cars until the storm passes. Once a storm has passed, we will immediately resume lessons. So lets say you are registered for 4pm, and the lightning alarm clears at 4:10pm, we will start classes as soon as everyone waiting has entered the water and count class time from that point forward. Anyone who is not on site and ready to go will not receive a credit for having missed the class.

Swim classes are not canceled until 15 minutes after the start time of the class to make every attempt to provide the class.

To make up for any instruction time lost due to weather/chemical/holidays we add 15 minutes to remaining classes until time is made up. This would make levels classes 1 hour and Tiny Tot classes 45 minutes. For example, if on a Monday class is canceled the Tuesday-Thursday class will be longer to make up for the time lost on Monday. If by the end of the two-week session we cannot make up the lost time, a credit will be given based on remaining time owed.

Classes not canceled by the Miami Springs Aquatic Center will not be made up. In order to receive a credit for any time lost for personal reasons, a doctors note must be provided to the front office staff.

A refund is only given if the child did not attend a single class or has a valid doctors note. Notice must be given to the front office staff of the Aquatic Center in a timely manner.
