141 Shadow Way the H.O. Goodlett House

141 Shadow Way Today

The H. O. Goodlett House is a Pueblo style home built in 1925 by the B.L. Smith Construction Company as a 2-bedroom, one bath home with an attached porte-cochere.

The Curtiss-Bright Company platted the area in 1927 as part of Country Club Estates. No ownership records could be found prior to the home site being platted.

The home was owned by Mrs. Lena Curtiss Wheeler and several pioneer residents lived there. The first City employee, Hugh Frank, lived in the home with his wife Grace, daughter Barbara Jean and son William Frank from 1925 to 1934 when they moved to 230 Fern Way.

Hiram Owen Goodlett and his wife Helen Mary Anders rented the house in 1934, together with their daughter Mary Ann and son Robert. The house was purchased by the Goodlett family in 1946.  Mr. Goodlett was employed by the Glenn Curtiss family from 1934 to 1943.  In 1943, he was employed by Pan American Airlines where he worked for thirty years in aircraft maintenance.

A survey and plans were submitted to the City Building Department in 2003, which included a sketch of the old house with one dining room, one living room, two bedrooms, a kitchen, one bath, a small enclosed porch and a carport with a small storage area adjacent to the carport. A demolition permit was issued for the carport and a permit for a detached three-car garage was approved. The addition that was built over the old carport area became a large family room.
