230 Fern Way the Hugh Frank House

This historic frame house was built in 1924. It was originally located on Rosedale (called Melrose Drive at that time) near Ludlam Drive. It was used as a rooming house for Florida East Coast Railway workers. The house is a fine example of Frame Vernacular Architecture (Late 19th, Early 20th Century) which features horizontal weatherboard siding exterior walls, wood double-hung sash windows and shingled A-frame roof with overhanging eves. Ornamentation is sparse, but includes framed windows.

In 1934 the house was moved to its present location on Fern way to be used as a residence for Hugh Eugene Frank, his wife Grace, daughter Barbara Jean and son Bill. Before their move, the Frank family had previously rented the historic Pueblo home at 141 Shadow Way the H.O. Goodlett House.

In the late 1920's Hugh Frank was hired by Glenn Curtiss to cover a wide variety of town duties. He was labled as "Mr. Miami Springs" due to the fact that he held many important positions here. During his almost 50 years with the City he served as the first Police and Fire Chief, the Water Superintendent, School bus driver and many other positions. All community activities were watched over by Mr. Frank and the whole town knew him thanks to his contributions.
