Mary Ann Goodlett-Taylor

MAGT

The City of Miami Springs mourns the loss of Mary Ann Goodlett-Taylor (1929-2018), a resident of Miami Springs since 1939.
Mary Ann's father, Hiram Owen Goodlett, served as chauffer and gardener at the Glenn H. Curtiss Estate. Mary Ann had fond memories of playing on the grounds of the Curtiss Mansion and of the kindness of the Curtiss Family. She married Francis Taylor on April 17, 1949.  Taylor was an Everglades Preservationist and won the Florida Wildlife Federation Award for the development of Wildlife Survival Islands. In the early days, Mary Ann spent her days ridding her horse, Rex, all over Hialeah and Miami Springs getting to know the people and houses intimately. Her father won the horse in a Pan Am raffle.  Because of her extensive knowledge of local area; Mary Ann was appointed to the Miami Springs Historic Preservation Board at its conception in 1983 and served on the Board for 30 years. Mary Ann served as Curator of the Miami Springs Historical Museum since it was founded in 1987 by John Stadnik.  John Stadnik had been collecting history and documents since he came to Miami Springs in 1947 housing the Museum at no charge above his Pharmacy. Between the two of them the extraordinary history of this small town has been preserved from the beginning.

Mary Ann lived to save and teach the history of Miami Springs.
