Property and Evidence Pickup
Personal property can be picked up at the Miami Springs Police Department by appointment only.
Please call 786-723-0812 Tuesday-Friday between 7A-3P to schedule an appointment. Make sure to have your Miami Springs Police case number available.
When picking up property, you must present government issued identification. Property that has been impounded as safekeeping/prisoner will be released only to the owner listed on the property receipt. If you are unable to pick up your property, a friend or relative must have a notarized Power of Attorney authorizing them to pick up your property. If the property is to be released as the result of a court order, the court order should indicate who has power of attorney.
As this process may take some time, schedule your appointment accordingly, however, please do not call sooner than 5 days for any property to be released as it will not have been fully processed through our systems.
Property (other than that listed as Evidence) will be held by the Miami Springs Police Department for 120 days. Property exceeding 120 days of storage is subject to disposal.
Return of Firearms:
The release of firearms is governed by how the weapon is classified: Evidence, Safekeeping, Prisoner Property, or Court Ordered Domestic Injunction. If you’re uncertain as to the classification assigned to your property, check with the detective or officer who is handling your case. If your property is a firearm that was impounded as evidence and you are listed as the owner, please verify it has been released from all judicial processes and bring the original court ordered Return of Property document with you along with a govt issued ID. If the firearm was impounded for any other reason and you are the listed owner on the property receipt, please call and verify it is ready to be returned and set an appointment with the property and evidence clerk. All firearms returns are subject to a background check for felony convictions or restraining orders.
