Civil Service Board

The Civil Service Board was established originally by Ordinance # 101 and it was amended by Resolution No. 2237 and by Ordinance 598-77 and 639-79. This Board consists of five members: two representatives elected by city employees, two representatives appointed by Council (appointments are on a rotating basis) and a fifth member selected by the other four members. Terms of office are for three years.

This Board meets as necessary to hear appeals from civil service employees regarding suspensions or terminations but has been inactive for many years due to the positive employment environment in the City. This also indicates the effectiveness and management of progressive discipline by the Department Heads who employ low-level interventions such as written reprimands of probationary periods if necessary instead of more severe disciplinary actions.

Meets as Required.
