Fair Havens is Historically Designated and Protected

Fair Havens

Fair Havens Center, the short and long term nursing care facility located on Curtiss Parkway, is a historically designated and protected facility by the City of Miami Springs.

Recent newspaper articles have incorrectly reported the historical status of Fair Havens.  “Fair Havens Lutheran Retirement and Nursing Center”  (formerly known as Hotel Country Club and the Battle Creek Inn) was designated a historic site in 1984 by the City of Miami Springs Historic Preservation Board and it remains so today. It was listed on the National Registry of Historical Places in 1986 (ref # 86003876).

While being placed on the National Register has significance, the City’s Historical Designation carries much greater weight and legal protection.  The City is not aware of Fair Havens being removed from the National Register, but, if it was, the City’s Historical Designation is in NO way affected.   The Historical Designation for Fair Havens is recorded as a restriction on the property deed and City’s designation resolution.  Both are provided below for reference.   Chapter 153 of the City Code provides the exclusive method to approve, modify, and remove the City’s Historic Designation, and there have been No proceedings before the City to remove Fair Havens’ designation.

The City of Miami Springs appreciates the attention of local newspapers, as well as that of famed historian Dr. Paul George.  They and the public can rest assured knowing that Fair Havens remains a protected, historical property and that Miami Springs takes the protection of its historical properties seriously.
