Miami Dade County Public Schools Financial Outlook

M-DCPS

As we all know, a public education funding challenge continues for Florida and most states throughout the country. Miami-Dade County Public Schools has absorbed previous funding losses through prudent fiscal management and has prepared for potential funding decreases by boosting its reserves by over 2000 percent.

Still, worse days may be yet to come with federal stimulus dollars through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act set to run out this year.

Unless Washington and Tallahassee act now to plug that hole, Miami-Dade County Public Schools and other districts across the state face a funding catastrophe that could well force us to cut the programs we hold most dear. I encourage you, your constituents, and your colleagues to stay informed about the school district's budget prospects.
