City Council: Advisory Boards

Did you know that the City of Miami Springs has 13 Advisory Boards and Commissions?

These groups of citizens meet on a regular schedule to review, advise and assist the Council with decisions in many areas that affect the wonderful quality of life that we enjoy. The Advisory Board meetings are held in City Hall, and are open to the public. All residents are encouraged to attend and participate. Should you have a particular interest in serving as a Board member, please contact the City Clerk’s office at 305.805.5005 for information and an application.

The Boards are:

  1. Architectural Review Board: Makes recommendations on plans, specifications and designs for commercial buildings.

  2. Board of Adjustment: Deals with granting of variances.

  3. Board of Parks and Parkways: Assists with planning the beautification of our public areas and our tree canopy.

  4. Civil Service Board: Deals with issues regarding our employees.

  5. Code Enforcement Board: A quasi-judicial board that hears cases regarding City Code violations.

  6. Disability Advisory Board: Assists the City in prioritizing projects that will improve universal accessibility in public places.

  7. Ecology Board: Makes recommendations regarding pollution and other issues impacting our environment.

  8. Education Advisory Board: Assists the Council in formulating policies relating to the public schools in our area.

  9. Historic Preservation Board: Identifies and preserves structures of historic significance.

  10. Recreation Commission: Acts as an advisory committee for the City Council in recreational matters.

  11. Zoning and Planning Board: Deals with zoning issues.

  12. Economic Development Task Force: Provide the City with direction to further the efforts of the economic development. 

  13. Nuisance Abatement Board: Preside over cases involving Public Nuisances.
