The City of Miami Springs prohibits door-to-door solicitation in residential neighborhoods without a valid permit issued by the Chief of Police.
Pursuant to City Code Section 114-02, it is unlawful for any solicitor, peddler, itinerant merchant, or transient vendor to sell, offer for sale, or solicit orders for goods or services at a private residence without first obtaining the required permit.
Why This Ordinance Exists
This ordinance is intended to protect residents from fraudulent or unauthorized solicitors who may:
- Offer unlicensed or substandard services.
- Attempt to sell products through deceptive practices.
- Solicit donations for illegitimate causes.
- Use door-to-door contact as an opportunity to commit theft or fraud.
Older adults are often targeted by scammers and fraudulent solicitors, making it especially important for residents to remain cautious when approached by unexpected visitors.
What to Do if Someone Comes to Your Door
If an individual is soliciting in your neighborhood:
- Do not feel obligated to open your door.
- Ask for identification without allowing the person inside your home.
- Never provide personal or financial information to an unsolicited visitor.
