The Miami Springs Police Department is committed to keeping our community informed and promoting public safety. Florida law requires certain convicted sexual offenders and sexual predators to register their residence and other identifying information with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).
This information is made available to help residents stay informed about registered offenders who may live, work, or attend school in their community.
Residency Restrictions
Under Florida Statute § 775.215, individuals convicted of certain qualifying sexual offenses involving victims under the age of 16 are prohibited from residing within 1,000 feet of a school, child care facility, park, or playground.
In addition, City of Miami Springs Code of Ordinances, Section 130.06, establishes more restrictive local residency requirements. Under this ordinance, qualifying offenders may not establish a permanent or temporary residence within 2,500 feet of:
- Schools
- Designated public school bus stops
- Child care centers
- Parks
- Playgrounds
- Other locations where children regularly gather
Exceptions
A person does not violate the City ordinance if one of the following applies:
- The permanent residence was established before July 1, 2005.
- The individual was a juvenile at the time of the offense and was not convicted as an adult.
- The individual is currently a minor.
- The school, designated bus stop, child care center, park, playground, or other location where children regularly gather was established after the individual had already established their permanent residence.
Registration Requirements
Florida law requires qualifying sexual offenders and sexual predators to register and maintain current address information with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) or the appropriate local law enforcement agency, as required by law.
