Your Call Could Prevent a Crime.
The Miami Springs Police Department encourages every resident, business owner, and visitor to report suspicious activity. Our officers would rather investigate something that turns out to be harmless than miss an opportunity to prevent a crime or protect someone's safety.
If something doesn't seem right, trust your instincts and give us a call. You don't have to determine whether a crime is occurring—that's our job. Your observations could provide the critical information officers need to respond quickly and keep our community safe.
What Should You Report?
Examples of suspicious activity include:
- Vehicles or individuals loitering in an area for an extended period, especially in secluded or unusual locations.
- Open doors, gates, or windows at homes or businesses that are normally secured, particularly if the owner is away.
- Unattended bags, backpacks, or packages left in public places.
- Individuals looking into vehicles or homes, checking door handles, or acting as if they are watching or following others.
- Any person, vehicle, or activity that appears unusual or out of place.
Remember, observing one of these situations does not necessarily mean a crime is occurring. However, it is always better to report your concerns and allow responding officers to determine whether further action is needed.
When You Call, Try to Provide:
- Who or what you observed.
- When you observed it.
- Where it occurred.
- Why it seemed suspicious.
- Descriptions of people, vehicles, license plates, or the direction of travel, if it can be done safely.
If it is safe to do so, remain on the phone with the dispatcher and continue to observe from a secure location until officers arrive. If you feel unsafe, leave the area immediately and call the police as soon as possible.
Together We Keep Miami Springs Safe
Our residents are our greatest partners in public safety. Your awareness and willingness to report suspicious activity provide our officers with additional eyes and ears throughout the community.
